Every Club With A Chance To Win The European Treble

After a long, physical game Bayern Munich emerged 4-2 victors in the DFB Pokal against Bayer Leverkusen. It was closer than the scoreline showed, as Bayern dominated the first half and Bayer Leverkusen made a mess of several easy chances in the second half. However, Bayern Munich showed that they were one of the best teams in the world, with some of the best depth as well with Thiago, Lucas Hernandez, Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic being subbed on late in the game. This, combined with Bayern Munich winning the league, means that Bayern still have a chance to win the treble.

A treble is when a club wins the league, a domestic competition (like the DFB Pokal or FA Cup), and the Champions League. This is in order of likeliness to win the treble, from least to most.

3. Napoli, Serie A

Napoli are definitely the team least likely to win the treble. Somehow they did win the Coppa Italia, beating Inter Milan in the semifinals before defeating Juventus in the final in penalty kicks. However, Napoli are 30 points behind first-placed Juventus with nine games remaining for seventh-place Napoli. They are one of the teams that benefits from the pause, as they will play the second leg against a Barcelona team that has struggled since the break. The first leg finished 1-1 in Naples, so Napoli have a chance to advance in the Champions League but winning the Serie A is far more unlikely.

2. PSG, Ligue 1

PSG has already wrapped up Ligue 1, since it was ended early due to coronavirus. However, the French Coupe de la Ligue has been rescheduled for July 24th where PSG will play Olympique Lyon. It has been an abysmal season for Lyon, who finished in seventh despite a wealth of talents including Joachim Andersen, Rayan Cherki and Houssem Auoar. PSG also defeated Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16 before the Champions League was postponed. PSG have a decent chance but historically always happen to fail in the Champions League quarterfinals.

1. Bayern Munich, Bundesliga

As previously mentioned, Bayern Munich have a great chance to win the treble. They have some of the best depth in Europe, and they have already wrapped up the Bundesliga and now the DFB Pokal. Bayern are almost guaranteed to advance to the quarterfinals, as they won the first leg against Chelsea 3-0 in London. Bayern are the only Bundesliga team to have won the treble in the 2012/13 season, and they did so with a team that included World Cup winners Toni Kroos, Phillip Lahm, Thomas Müller, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Jerome Boateng, Manuel Neuer and Javi Martinez. This team is arguably more impressive, with star striker Robert Lewandowski scoring an astonishing 51 goals in all competitions this season, including a brace in the DFB Pokal final against Leverkusen. However, the biggest improvement to the team has to be incredible speedster Alphonso Davies who can play all positions and outrun anybody on the field.

So that is each European team with a chance to win the treble.
