At Last: Manchester City are the Champions of Europe

Champions League Trophy

After years of near misses, Manchester City has finally won the Champions League by beating Inter Milan 1-0.

The first half was a nervy affair, with both sides getting decent chances to open the scoring. City striker Erling Haaland was sent through on goal but was denied by Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana, who was forced to come up clutch on a few occasions. City was forced to make a change in the first half, with Kevin de Bruyne picking up an injury after 35 minutes.

The Premier League side grew more confident in the second half and finally got their reward in the 68th minute when Rodri hammered a shot past Onana. Inter created a few more chances towards the end of the game, notably with substitute Romelu Lukaku blocking his teammate Federico Dimarco’s shot. Dimarco also hit the crossbar, while Lukaku sent an easy header straight at Ederson.

City went undefeated in the Champions League, destroying the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid along the way. Striker Erling Haaland finished as the tournament’s top scorer, finding the back of the net twelve times.

Manchester City secured the treble by winning the FA Cup, Champions League, and Premier League.
