Marchwiński On Fire: Poznań Star Sweeps Monthly Awards

For just the second time in history, the Ekstraklasa Player of the Month and Young Player of the Month have gone to the same player. Filip Marchwiński won both awards after a strong start to the season, helping Lech Poznań take an early lead on top of the Ekstraklasa table.

In July, Marchwiński scored both of his side’s goals in the opener, a 2-1 win over Piast Gliwice. His first shot was blasted past Gliwice goalkeeper Frantisek Plach to tie the match just after half time. A few minutes later, he headed in the winner. While he was less active in Poznań’s second match, coming on as a substitute after a mid-week European qualifier, his performance in the opener was good enough to win both awards.

He is just the second player to have won both awards in one month, with the other player being another Lech Poznań talent: Jakub Kamiński. Kamiński became the first player to do so after his performances in October 2021, when the then-18-year-old scored three goals and assisted one. By the end of the season, he scored nine goals and assisted eight, earning a move to Bundesliga club Wolfsburg.

Marchwiński is looking to build on last season, having scored five times and assisted three goals. He also scored two goals in notable victories over Swedish club Djurgårdens IF in the Europa Conference League, helping his side reach the Quarter-finals.
